Keyena McKenzie

Naturopath, Midwife, CPM

Keyena’s interest in naturopathic medicine and midwifery was kindled while working as a horse pack wilderness ranger in the southern Rocky Mountains of New Mexico more than 30 years ago. It was in those sacred mountains that she was introduced to her first medicinal plant, osha root (Ligusticum porteri), a plant that grows above 7500’ elevation and is used for it’s potent anti-viral properties. From that meeting forward, while working as a ranger, she always carried a nub of osha root in her horse’s saddlebags when she was on trail for extended periods of time. It was from there that she stepped onto the path of inquiry into the healing power of nature, botanical medicine in its many forms, therapeutic nutrition, homeopathy, midwifery, cupping and Holistic Abdominal Relief Therapy (the H.A.R.T. Method). Knowing that these modalities are the medicine that can profoundly affect the true well-being of those she serves, she offers these deeply effective therapies to those who are searching and preparing for a higher, more resonant level of wellness. It is the medicine of our ancestors worldwide, the medicine of contemporary research and the medicine that brings about deep and lasting alignment when incorporated into our daily lives.

Keyena received her doctoral degree in naturopathic medicine, certification in naturopathic midwifery and completed extensive studies with renowned homeopathic practitioners from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon in 1998. She is currently licensed by the state of Oregon as a Naturopathic Doctor and the state of Wisconsin as a Licensed Midwife. Additionally she completed the Lactation Educator training through the Evergreen Family Medical Center in Washington in 1998. Her hand and spirit medicine was further enhanced in 2015 when she trained and was certified as a H.A.R.T. Method practitioner incorporating Maya Abdominal Therapies and, in early 2016, added cupping, gua sha and moxibustion therapies, with roots in Asia, Europe and Central America, into her practice. Her treatments are highly individualized for each client’s unique needs. In her sessions with clients, Keyena explores the deep root causes of imbalance and aims to remove what stands in the way of cure. Her work has been profoundly effective for people in all life stages from the beginning of life when babies and women are navigating conception, labor, birth, and along the joyous and difficult path during life and body transitions, all the way through to the end of life when people are transitioning into another level beyond death. She has practiced in a variety of settings in the nearly 20 years she’s been in practice—from private practice, integrative medicine departments of larger clinics, small free-standing community clinics and in international settings.

Keyena loves gardening, canoeing, kayaking, photography and plant medicine crafting. Currently she’s studying West African drumming and dance and is eager to learn fly fishing. She’s the mother to an amazing life teacher now in college and currently shares her home with two cats and a smart and playful German Shepherd rescue all of whom respond beautifully to natural medicine.
